About Us

For over 50 years, The Arc of Tempe has dedicated itself to fostering greater inclusion and a sense of belonging for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Tempe and the surrounding communities.

Our community-based programs revolve around three core pillars: recreation, volunteerism, and self-advocacy. We firmly believe that every individual deserves a place at the table, and our mission is to shape a world that's more inclusive, aware, and accepting.

Our History

Established in 1965, The Arc of Tempe was born out of parents' love and commitment to creating a haven for their loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Facing a scarcity of resources, including community support, these dedicated parents and volunteers rallied for change. Their efforts led to improved social opportunities for the IDD community, marking the emergence of The Arc of Tempe as an essential part of the community.

Our Vision

The Arc of Tempe envisions inclusive communities for individuals with IDD through accessible leadership, quality programming, and positive, community-based activities. We advocate for equal access to community, transportation, housing, and employment, collaborating closely with individuals, organizations, and partners for sustainable success. Committed to integrity and excellence, we strive to make this vision a reality.
